The challenge for coconut fiber industry in producing countries is the lack of conditions for research and development activities to support the development and diversification of products.
Since the price of coconut products from the market soared on the global coir is also improved slightly. Coconut fiber, coco peat and tufted carpets are the products most exported from India, both production and exports are higher than the same period last year.
From May 01 - 7/2013, Japan has imported 23 383 tonnes of coco peat from Sri Lanka, reaching 90.6% of total imports of coconut fiber products of the country and reach 29.2% of total exports Sri Lanka's export coco peat (80 078 tonnes). Among the products of the coconut fiber from Sri Lanka, coco peat is the largest exporter, accounting for 57.8% of total exports of the country. Promoting research and development to create more better production techniques in order to improve the quality of products made from coconut fiber is a necessity to help the coconut fiber industry prosper .
